Born and raised in Lupton, Arizona, Alvin Yellowhorse comes from a long line of silversmiths. At an early age, he learned the basics of silversmithing from his father, Frank Yellowhorse. After graduating from high school, he worked for a local jewelry studio, where he had the opportunity to hone his craft and learn the channel inlay technique.
Having mastered the channel inlay technique, Alvin went on to originate his own jewelry-making technique known as corn row wave inlay. Unlike the traditional inlay, his technique involves cutting and rounding stones individually before setting them in silver or gold pieces. Alvin loves exploring new ideas and bringing his own unique touch to everything he works on.
His passion for jewelry-making and tireless efforts to grow his business have made him one of the most sought-after silversmiths in the Southwest. He has won numerous awards for his work and has been featured in the Smithsonian.
Alvin's jewelry collection showcases exceptional craftsmanship and is characterized by its bold statement pieces. Graced with sophisticated inlays, his jewelry features authentic turquoise, coral, lapis lazuli, sterling silver, and gold. Many of his pieces are made with his signature technique: the corn row wave inlay.
Alvin's rings feature bands of silver and gold interspersed with hand-cut stones. He creates attractive inlay arrangements that are sure to earn a double-take whenever you wear them out.
From complex double-stacked bracelets to raised inlay designs, Alvin's bracelet collection is a testament to his technical prowess. His bracelets combine detailed geometric patterns with textured silver for an eye-catching finish.
Alvin's belt buckles feature a blend of techniques, including tufa stone cast, saw work, file work, and raised inlay. They showcase timeless artistry and are perfect for both formal and casual attire.
