Rebecca T. Begay is a Navajo artist from Crownpoint, New Mexico, known for her exceptional silversmithing ability. Raised in a family rooted in Native American traditions, she developed an interest in Navajo art forms at a very young age. However, it wasn’t until university that she learned to make Native American jewelry.
Outside of her artistry, Rebecca leads a rich personal life. She is a devoted wife and mother who values the importance of home and family. She and her husband, renowned Navajo artist Darryl Dean Begay, enjoy making jewelry together and have won several awards for their work.
Now that her sons are grown, Rebecca hopes to invest more time in her art. In addition to tufa casting, she is passionate about drawing and painting and would like to continue making art for as long as she can.
Rebecca creates pieces inspired by her love of nature. Her jewelry features designs of flowers, leaves, and butterflies and is made by pouring molten silver into hand-carved molds made from tufa rock.
Rebecca's earrings strike the perfect balance between tradition and elegance. She uses different shapes, lines, and textures to create pieces that draw the eye and spark curiosity.
Whether you’re attending a formal event or preparing to run a few errands, her versatile earrings are the perfect accent for special occasions and everyday wear.
Begay's bracelets showcase a masterful understanding of texture and form. She uses oxidation to create depth in her designs and embellishes each piece with pinpricks of turquoise, coral, and sugilite.
True to her usual style, Rebecca’s pendants feature elements found in nature and come in various shapes and sizes. They are adorned with small pieces of turquoise and coral set against oxidized silver for contrast. We recommend pairing them with a simple silver chain to emphasize the beauty of their craftsmanship.
Are you looking for something that is as meaningful as it is beautiful? If so, Rebecca T. Begay’s jewelry collection is full of breathtaking pieces that reflect Navajo artistry. Her creations are one-of-a-kind and made to last. When you purchase a piece from her collection, you are gaining an accessory that you can treasure for years to come.
Rebecca T. Begay typically uses natural high-quality Lone Mountain, Candelaria, Bisbee, and Sleeping Beauty turquoise. She chooses these stones for their vibrant color, quality, and significance within Navajo culture.
Each piece from Rebecca T. Begay is handmade and stamped with her artist hallmark. You can check the back of your piece to see her hallmark.
